In Crisis – Travel Retail Voices: Paula Short, Co-Founder, Beauty BLVD

There’s something that’s goin’ round, that’s shutting our borders down
It’s a bad time for our sick and our old

Zoomland: Paula Short hooks up with Martin Moodie from her base in Lincolnshire

Welcome to In Crisis – Travel Retail Voices, our podcast series in which we speak to industry executives around the world to see how they and their businesses are coping with the COVID-19 crisis.

Today we talk to Paula Short, Co-Founder of Beauty BLVD, a UK-based company that sprung from the enormous success of a product line called Glitter Lips, whose usp is that not only will it get you an amazing amount of attention when you wear it, but that its also drink proof, kiss proof and party proof – not a product to wear if you are a wallflower as Paula says but sure to get you noticed.

Paula has subsequently driven the success of a company and a brand portfolio built on values of transparency and trust – a vibrant young cosmetics house driven by instinct and passion more than any excel sheet business plan.

In a fascinating insight, Paula says of the company’s beginnings: “We had no plan; we hated the word strategy because we just didn’t understand it, and we had nothing in the world except passion, drive and partnership.”

It’s an entrepreneurial formula that has worked a treat on domestic markets and found its way into travel retail, where it is set to accelerate further following the appointment of Garry Maxwell’s newly formed GMAX Travel Retail to handle Beauty BLVD in the channel. Martin Moodie spoke to Paula this week at her home in Lincolnshire and promises one of the most engaging, upbeat, delightful and downright inspirational interviews you’ll hear or read this year.

No plan, no strategy, no anything. But there was something. Plenty in fact. Paula Short tells Martin Moodie her story of passion, persistence and partnership
