The Moodie Davitt Report x Globuy Duty Free News Flash: Hyundai takes over Doota Store; Givenchy makes bold statement in Bangkok

As part of our pioneering information-sharing agreement with leading Chinese consumer platform Globuy, a selection of our stories with key Moodie Davitt brand partners appears on Globuy’s weekly ‘Duty Free News Flash’ column.

Globuy aims to become “the KOL of Chinese travel retail” and already has 400,000 followers and a monthly audience of 1 million views for its WeChat social media platform promoting new launches, product availability, promotions and special offers.

This week, Globuy’s Duty Free News Flash began with major travel retail news, as it shared our story on Hyundai Department Store’s acquisition of Doosan Corporation’s duty free business.

As reported, Hyundai will operate out of space currently occupied by Doota Duty Free, which announced last month that it was quitting the business. Hyundai, as the second-largest department store operator in Korea, has earmarked the duty free market as a channel for growth and has agreed a deal to take over Doota Duty Free.

Globuy gave our report a consumer focus by providing a visual map that would help their audience navigate South Korea’s bustling duty free market. From Myeongdong and Jiangnan to Dongdaenum, Globuy highlighted all of the Seoul’s most important department stores, and exactly where to find them.

The News Flash then moved onto Bangkok, where it shared our exclusive coverage of Givenchy and King Power International’s ‘Le Rouge Outpost’ at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport.

The outpost was one of the brand’s biggest travel retail activations to date and showcased Givenchy’s exciting ambitions in the channel. It also highlighted Givenchy’s Le Rouge lipstick range, which has been described as ‘the ambassador of Givenchy beauty’ by the brand. The pop-up ran from 1 October to 30 November.

Globuy also reported on Daniel Wellington and Tasa Meng Duty Free’s pop-up at Taoyuan International Airport. It is the Swedish watch and lifestyle brand’s first full boutique concept pop-up store in Asia Pacific travel retail. It includes exclusive offers and will run until 29 February.

Afterwards, Globuy reviewed some of the latest limited-edition releases from Shiseido Travel Retail. The holiday capsule collections, designed in collaboration with Japanese and international artists, are now available in selected travel retail locations.

These collections are the Shiseido Beauty Blossoms collection, Clé de Peau Beauté Collection Rêve de Kimono (Kimono Dream), Nars Studio 54 Collection, and Laura Mercier Paint the Town Gold Holiday Collection.

Finally, Globuy concluded this week’s News Flash with a review of Benefit Cosmetics’ new Professional Hydrate Primer. The new primer offers 12-hour hydration while minimising the look of pores. It is now available in selected travel retail doors, to be followed by a worldwide release in 2020.
