Viva Mexico: Casa AGP puts mezcal in the Summit of the Americas spotlight

Mezcal producer and distributor Casa Armando Guillermo Prieto (AGP) is set to highlight three brands – El Recuerdo, Zignum and Señorio – that target three very different markets, at next week’s Summit of the Americas – A Virtual Experience.

El Recuerdo is owned by famed Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter Jorge ‘Gamebred’ Masvidal.

As reported, the all-digital Summit of the Americas (5-9 April) is being organised by the International Association of Airport and Duty Free Stores (IAADFS) and Asociación Sudamericana de Tiendas Libres (ASUTIL) in partnership with The Moodie Davitt Report (which organised the successful Virtual Travel Retail Expo from 12-16 October and will reprise that event on 18-22 October 2021).

Gustavo (Gus) Valdor is International Commercial Director for Casa AGP’s flagship Zignum mezcal, a leading brand in the Mexican domestic and duty free markets and one of the most awarded mezcals in the world.

“Each one of our brands has a different role to play at the moment,” Valdor said.

“They are amongst the top leading brands in duty free in Mexico, and, by default, in worldwide sales. We appeal to every consumer segment, from the novice mezcal drinker with Zignum, which is popular on the cruise market, to the aficionado with Señorío and the more adventurous mezcal fan with El Recuerdo.”

At the Summit, Casa AGP will showcase a revamped Zignum, with a new look designed to underline the brand’s Mexican heritage and distinguish its Joven, Reposado and Añejo expressions.

Zignum means ‘The Tip of the Spear’. The brand claims to offer the first Metodo Verde (green method) mezcal, made by shredding the raw agave hearts and then steaming the fibres and nectar to offer a clean agave flavor.

Zignum supports the Fundación el Agave y Nosotros, which promotes local artists and artisans, and the Fundación Don Antonio Rivera Venegas, which offers vital services including medical care, disaster relief and agronomical education in the Oaxaca region.

According to Valdor, El Recuerdo mezcal is also available throughout Caribbean duty free and in military outlets and is targeting further expansion in the cruise market.

El Recuerdo’s Joven and Abocado Con Cusano, which is enriched with Agave worm to offer a silky texture, are backed by a strong promotional campaign.

Casa AGP’s Señorío targets the mezcal aficionado

The Señorio brand has Espadín Agave fields in Tlacolula, Oaxaca. Its Joven, Reposado and Añejo line-up has been extended with Abocado, which combines cooked agave with the natural flavour of the maguey worm and herbal tones.
