Rodenstock sets sights on a top ten listing for its eyewear

German eyewear specialist Rodenstock is aiming to secure listings with the top ten travel retailers within the next three years.

Rodenstock is active in over 80 countries and holds licences for German brands Porsche Design and Bogner as well as producing collections under its own name. As reported, the company plans to launch own-brand eyewear into travel retail.

Rodenstock Director Global Retail Petra Eckhardt described the sunglasses category as “booming”.

“Sunglasses are one of the most sought-after categories in travel retail and consumers are always looking for new lifestyle brands,” she said.

Femininity with star appeal: Lady R Sun revamps a model favoured by actress Senta Berger in the 1960s.

“We see potential in all distribution channels: eyewear multi-brand duty free stores, airport shops, downtown and border, inflight and cruise.”

Eckhardt noted the company’s “serious ambitions” to be listed by the top ten travel retailers and underlined Rodenstock’s range of styles.

“Travel retail is very important for us, and we have been seeing excellent growth in the Americas as well as Asia, the Middle East and Eastern Europe,” Eckhardt added.

She said Rodenstock will continue to invest in the channel, supporting new launches and products through sales staff training, consumer and travel retail-specific promotions and social media campaigns.

The Rodenstock portfolio, including the latest Porsche Design range, will feature at this month’s Summit of the Americas (Booth 719).

Zeitgeist Sun is included in the Rodenstock portfolio for this month’s Summit of the Americas.

Targeting both men and women, Rodenstock’s range includes the Lady R Sun series, a reissue of a model worn in the 1960s by actress Senta Berger, and rocco by Rodenstock which combines 80s style with international catwalk trends.

The Roll Hinge 2.0 series targets men with a passion for technical details and the Zeitgeist Sun series matches frames with the colours of Rodenstock Tint lenses.

A Munich-inspired range, which includes Greenery Isar, English Gardens and Gärtnerplatz – rocco by Rodenstock, features correction spectacles and sunglasses.

Ready Reader reading glasses are available in various optical strengths and in four colours: silver and black, gold and burgundy, palladium, and gun and dark brown.
