CNSC named highest bidder for Nanjing Lukou International Airport departures duty free contract

CHINA. China National Service Corporation (CNSC) has been named the highest bidder for the Terminal 2 departures duty free concession at Nanjing Lukou International Airport.

The airport company issued a public announcement through its official bidding agency on 4 November, a story first broken by WeChat B2B media DutyFreeExpert. China Duty Free Group, which runs the airport’s arrivals duty free business and T1 departures contract, was the second-highest bidder.

The concession covers a 1,500sq m duty free store in T2’s International Departure Hall. The guaranteed annual rent is CNY55.35 million (US$8.37 million) or a 28.44% monthly commission on sales, whichever is highest. The eight-year contract will be effective from the date of contract signing.

The news is a welcome boost to CNSC, which is also preparing to inaugurate its first duty free store in Hainan this month, one of three new locations on the island province due to open by 28 November. The tender success follows the recent Grand Opening of a new-look downtown duty free store in Hangzhou, the capital of China’s Zhejiang province.

The concession covers wines & spirits, food, beauty products, fashion & accessories, and health and wellbeing products.

In 2019, the airport’s annual passenger throughput was 30.6 million, of which 3.64 million were international. T2 has a capacity of up to 18 million passengers per year.

Nanjing Lukou Airport, 35.8 kilometres away from the centre of Nanjing, is the gateway between Jiangsu Province and Nanjing City. The airport is a large-scale national and regional hub, China’s air cargo centre and express delivery centre.
