Cloetta invests behind product innovation amid drive to grow sugar confectionery

Swedish confectionery specialist Cloetta Global Travel Retail (GTR) is set to launch an innovative new product under its Red Band range early next year.

As reported, Cloetta GTR presented its extensive range of sugar and water-based confectionery at last month’s TFWA World Exhibition. With an eye on sustainability, the company highlighted the recently-refreshed The Jelly Bean Factory brand, revealing new POS materials and plans to replace plastic packaging with paper.

The Jelly Bean Factory is a key focus at Cloetta GTR’s permanent branded space at Prague Václav Havel Airport, which opened in partnership with Lagardère Travel Retail late last year.

KEX sports a new look in travel retail

At Cannes, Cloetta also presented a more contemporary look for its popular KEX chocolate wafer bars, another product featuring updated packaging and a new travel retail-exclusive Sharing Bag.

Cloetta Global Travel Retail Regional Market Manager Jana Stroop underlined the company’s aim to tap into the increasing trend for biscuit-based sweets and snacks and, at the same time, to meet the demands of sustainability-conscious customers.

“We have increased the use of plant-based packaging in many of our products,” she said. “Our aim is to emphasise quality and fun products which offer great alternatives to the conventional confectionery offer in travel retail.

“Cloetta is intent on strengthening its partnerships, building on its own distribution network and developing new products. We are always looking for innovative ways to grow the sugar confectionery category.”

Cloetta’s new Red Band product focuses on the growing demand for healthier, more natural sweets and snacks. Stroop added that the announcement of the first listing in travel retail is imminent.

Red Band was founded in 1928 and is known for its range of popular Dutch candies including fruit drops, gum drops and liquorice. Red Band Sharing Bags of Swedish Fish & Sour Suckers launched earlier this year.
