A carnival spirit: Bayou Rum underlines its Louisiana roots with XO Mardi Gras Edition

Bayou Rum has released a XO Mardi Gras Edition, underlining its Louisiana heritage and marking the US state’s most celebrated holiday.

Bayou Rum XO Mardi Gras is a premium expression produced through single-batch distillation in copper pot stills and aged in bourbon and sherry casks for six years.

Bayou Rum XO Mardi Gras: A rum with a 320-year old carnival as its inspiration.

Bayou Rum XO Mardi Gras is presented in a cork-sealed glass decanter with a wooden closure. The expression has a 40% ABV and RRP of US$79.99. According to the brand owner, it offers flavours of orange marmalade, stone fruit and tupelo honey, with a finish of black pepper, smoke and sherry.

Bayou Rum Master Blender Reiniel Vicente said: “We started making Bayou Rum about seven years ago, so these are truly our oldest, heaviest and finest rum stocks to date. While we have wanted to pay homage to Mardi Gras since we opened our doors, we had to be patient and pay special attention to ensure this expression was deserving of bearing the name of Louisiana’s most popular holiday.”

Master Distiller Jeff Murphy said the release was inspired by the pageantry and tradition of Louisiana’s Mardi Gras. The carnival celebrates its 320th anniversary this year and will run until 5 March.

Bayou XO Mardi Gras will be highlighted at next month’s Summit of the Americas in Orlando (Booth 1121).

As reported, Bayou XO Mardi Gras featured at last year’s TFWA World Exhibition, as part of Bayou Rum’s rebrand and focus on raising the bar  in the high-end craft spirits category.
