Zurich Airport reports +1.3% commercial turnover growth for 2019 as spend per passenger drops

SWITZERLAND. Zurich Airport has reported commercial turnover grew +1.3% year-on-year, but the average spend per passenger was down -0.9% at CHF22.50 (US$23.19) in 2019.

Switzerland’s busiest airport reported that, thanks to the positive development of landside shopping, luxury passenger facilities and gastronomy, commercial turnover for the year reached CHF601.4 million (US$621.6 million). The year-on-year increase for landside turnover was +2.6% and airside just +0.4%.

Landside turnover outstripped airside revenue growth for both December and the full calendar year

A total of 31,507,692 passengers passed through the airport over the course of the year. The number of local passengers rose by +0.1% to 22.2 million and transfer passengers rose +4.2% to 9.2 million.

Passenger traffic for 2019 stayed ahead of the 2018 figure for most of the year

Overall, there were 275,329 flight movements at the airport over the course of the year, a -1.1% year-on-year decrease, while the average number of passengers per flight rose from 127.2 to 129.6.
