Zurich Airport buoyed by rebound in commercial turnover in 2022

Arrivals and departures duty free (managed by Dufry) contributed to the recovery in commercial sales

SWITZERLAND. Zurich Airport retail and dining turnover reached CHF511.2 million (US$550.2 million) in 2022. This was an increase of +73.4% year-on-year, and represented an encouraging 85% of the 2019 figure of CHF601.4 million.

Airside spend per departing passenger across the year reached CHF24 (US$25.83), down by -4.9% on last year.

Trading has continued to improve over recent months: in December, commercial turnover hit 93.2% of December 2021 levels at CHF49.5 million (US$53.2 million). Average airside spend in the month came to CHF26.70 (US$28.73), down -5.2% year-on-year.

Sales were buoyed by a +79.8% year-on-year rise in passenger traffic to 1.9 million in the month (81.6% of the 2019 level). For the full year, the traffic figure was 22.5 million, more than double the 2021 number. ✈
