Writers Tears named ‘Best Blended Whiskey’ at Irish Whiskey Awards

Writers Tears

Writers Tears has been named ‘Best Blended Whiskey’ at the inaugural Irish Whiskey Awards 2013, run in conjunction with The Celtic Whiskey Club and The Irish Whiskey Society.

Judges were said to have tasted many of Ireland’s top blends including Bushmills Black Bush, Powers 12 Year Old Special Reserve, Tullamore Dew 12 Year Old and Jameson 12 Year Old Special Reserve. Voting took place at formal blind tastings and also in the Celtic Whiskey Shop at Dawson St, Dublin.

An old Irish pot still whiskey, Writers Tears is a vatting of single malt and single pot still whiskeys. Distilled from 60% malt and 40% pot still (no grain), this triple distilled, non-peated whiskey is matured and aged in American Oak bourbon casks. Its taste is described as offering flashes of apple with hints of vanilla and honey over a distinctive pot-still base.

Writers Tears spokesman Woody Kane said: “It’s great to see the tradition of Irish whiskey being honoured in this way and we are delighted to be hailed as the best blended whiskey in such a huge category. There are quite a lot of excellent whiskeys in this, so it’s fantastic to be chosen.”

Writers Tears is available at The Loop at Dublin and Shannon airports.
