World first for Hong Kong International as IMAX theatre opens

HONG KONG. Airport Authority Hong Kong and UA Cinemas are to open the UA IMAX Theatre at Hong Kong International Airport Terminal 2 – the world’s first airport IMAX theatre.

Airport Authority Hong Kong said the new facility would provide “the most immersive cinematic experience” for travellers from all over the world and local residents.

The theatre, sited on the entertainment zone on Level 6 of T2, will open in the second quarter of 2012.

The approximate screen size of 13.89m high and 22.42m wide will be the biggest IMAX screen in Hong Kong. The theatre, which can accommodate 358 people, features a range of proprietary features, including crystal-clear images, a laser-aligned digital sound system and an immersive theatre design. Cinema-goers will be able to watch 2D and 3D movies.

Apart from the new IMAX Theatre, more than 20 dining outlets, over 80 shops, i-Sports and SkyDeck are also situated in T2. Most are located in the non-restricted area, offering a wide spectrum of dining, shopping and entertainment choices.
