CAMBODIA. Women in Travel Retail (WiTR) has announced that its latest fundraising initiative, in partnership with Cambodian charity Sunrise, aims to raise €15,000 to build and equip two classrooms at Sunrise’s Siem Reap Learning Centre.
Sunrise Learning Centre provides the poorest sectors of the community with the opportunity to learn a foreign language, empowering them to find good jobs in Siem Reap’s tourism industry. Children from impoverished backgrounds are also offered free classes in English.
The project was nominated by WiTR member and Lacoste Travel Retail Director Erin Lillis-Arrowsmith. “I have been to Siem Reap many times and seen the amazing work that the learning centre does, but they desperately need more classrooms and equipment to meet the demand,” said Lillis-Arrowsmith. “Learning English is so important to help these children to break the cycle of poverty and to give them a future.”
Funds will be raised via an auction and raffle at WiTR’s annual TFWA World Exhibition meeting, which will take place on Tuesday 4 October from 5:30pm-7 pm, on level 1 near the Business Centre and Hotels Desk at the Palais des Festivals. All women from the duty free and travel retail industry are welcome.
Many industry colleagues have already donated auction and raffle prizes* as well as money contributions. To enter the prize draw, a fee of €10 for one business card is required or €20 for three business cards.
