Whyte & Mackay set to reveal new whisky collections in Cannes

Whyte & Mackay will introduce two new single malt whisky collections, from Tamnavulin and Fettercairn, at the upcoming TFWA World Exhibition & Conference in Cannes (Green Village, M52).

The company also revealed that it will unveil two new as yet unnamed “contemporary spirits” at the event.

Following a successful launch into 17 Dufry stores in the UK, Whyte & Mackay is now rolling out Tamnavulin, from its Speyside distillery, to its overseas travel retail partners.

The spirits company said that the whisky had been designed to “recruit new consumers to the malt segment and drive trade up from blended Scotch”.  In Cannes, a travel retail exclusive will be introduced: Tamnavulin Tempranillo 1 litre. It retails at £37.50 (US$48).

Tamnavulin Speyside Malt
Tamnavulin Tempranillo, a travel retail exclusive, has been aged in casks that held Tempranillo, the popular Spanish red varietal (and dominant grape in Rioja).

Also on show at the TFWA event will be single malt whisky Fettercairn, featuring the first new releases from this Highland distillery in almost a decade. The core collection comprises four new expressions (12yo, 28yo, 40yo and 50yo), presented in what Whyte & Mackay describes as a “much premiumised brand identity, bottle and packaging”.

Each product in the range begins its life in American Oak ex-bourbon barrels, with the 12yo and 28yo expressions resting there until maturity. The 40yo features a finish in an Apostoles Sherry Cask and the 50yo in a Tawny Port Pipe.

The Fettercairn launches are the first from the Highland distillery in almost a decade.

Priced domestically from £48 (US$62) to £10,000 (US$13,007), the new Fettercairn range was introduced into the UK, France, Germany and Taiwan in August. Whyte & Mackay added that it has also created a travel retail exclusive product for the Fettercairn portfolio, featuring a different finish, which will be introduced in January 2019.

Whyte & Mackay Director Global Travel Retail Richard Trimby said: “Within the last few years, Whyte & Mackay has made huge strides towards its goal of becoming a driving force in the global spirits market – and travel retail has a key role to play within this mission.

“We are thrilled to be presenting our new Tamnavulin and Fettercairn single malt whiskies in Cannes, each of which will be enhanced by its own travel retail exclusive expression. And we are very excited by our two new contemporary brands, which will be introduced in more detail at the show.”
