Whyte & Mackay releases Very Rare Vintage 1975 Jura single malt

Whyte & Mackay has released a Very Rare Vintage 1975 Jura single malt whisky, which is limited to just 21 bottles in 2020.

The travel retail-exclusive line is available initially through DFS Group, and will later be rolled out to other key locations in Asia. The 44-year-old has a recommended sale price of £6,880 (US$8,540).

“Despite the current climate, there is still strong demand for these unique and very rare releases appealing to Scotch aficionados and collectors,” says Whyte & Mackay Travel Retail Director Richard Trimby

First matured in a small batch American oak ex-bourbon barrel, the single malt was further refined in Tawny Port Pipes for a further six years. These rare port casks, sourced from the Symington Family Estates in the Douro Valley in Northern Portugal, added a finishing flair, said Whyte & Mackay.

Whyte & Mackay Travel Retail Director Richard Trimby commented: “Despite the current climate, there is still strong demand for these unique and very rare releases appealing to Scotch aficionados and collectors. This Very Rare Vintage 1975 is a remarkable single malt which not only shows a real test of time, but also reflects the incredible skills of our whisky makers in knowing when the time was right to bottle this rare treasure. We are sure both Jura lovers and the wider whisky fraternity will relish this extraordinary whisky.”

The presentation box also includes a 5cl miniature and a book sharing the story of the single malt.

Tasting notes: The whisky carries flavours of tropical fruit salad, nectarines and roasted walnuts with a black coffee finish. Aromas of sandalwood, blood orange, raisin and toasted bananas can be detected. The colour is a natural, distinctive amber gold hue with crimson highlights.
