WHSmith captures news & books concession at Cologne-Bonn Airport

GERMANY. WHSmith Travel has won the news & books concession at Cologne-Bonn Airport, following a tender this Summer. The contract, which runs for five years, covers airside and landside spaces in Terminal 1.

In other recent commercial news, Stena Line affiliate R&F Travel Retail opened its first store at Cologne-Bonn Airport in late April, offering duty paid goods ranging from wines & spirits to fragrances & cosmetics, confectionery, toys and fashion.

Gebr Heinemann ceased operations at Cologne-Bonn Airport when its contract ended on 31 December last year, bringing to an end a 51-year partnership. Cologne-Bonn was the location for the company’s first airport retail concession in 1969.

In 2019 the airport served around 12.4 million passengers. Last year, traffic volumes fell by -75% to around 3.1 million.
