Westfield and Hudson Group revamp New York JFK Terminal 8

US. Eight new shops – including Victoria’s Secret and seven renovated Hudson locations – are now open at New York JFK International Airport Terminal 8.

The redeveloped stores are part of the 51,000sq ft retail and dining collection at the American Airlines terminal. The project was a collaboration between airport retail terminal developer Westfield and Hudson Group.

“As a major gateway to New York City and the world, Westfield is proud to partner with American Airlines to provide their passengers with a first-class experience at Terminal 8,” commented Westfield Executive Vice President Dominic Lowe. “Together, we’re committed to JFK and to continually enhancing the overall experience to reflect the style and spirit of New York.”

Featuring a marketplace with healthy snacks and common design elements such as vibrant lighting and a modern colour palette, the seven redeveloped Hudson locations include a Euro Café/Hudson on the pre-security Arrivals Level, with the remaining shops located beyond the security checkpoint to conveniently serve travellers near their gates.

A 2,069sq ft Hudson flagship is located just beyond the security check-point. A notable addition to the line-up is a 3,226sq ft shop near Gate 42 which houses a Baskin Robbins and Dunkin’ Donuts.

Hudson Group President and CEO Joe DiDomizio noted: “We are grateful for the cooperation we received from our partners Westfield and American Airlines when we were developing the new Hudson concept. As “˜The Traveller’s Best Friend,’ our goal was to redesign our core concept Hudson News to create a more open, friendly and welcoming environment for travellers.

“We have accomplished this mission through whimsical, colour-coded signage to attract customers’ attention to our four distinct selling areas: Media, Marketplace, Essentials and Destination. Greatly enhanced sales of healthy snacks, grab-and-go foods, authentic souvenirs and a wide range of electronics gear and accessories have resulted in rave reviews from customers and our landlords, along with improved revenue for the airport wherever the new concept has been opened.”

“The addition of these new shopping and dining options at JFK Terminal 8 not only creates a friendlier, more relaxing visit but makes people look forward to traveling with American Airlines,” observed AA Manager Strategic Alliances David Lombard. “We’re excited to enhance the travel experience which helps us continue to offer a seamless experience and high level of service for all of our customers.”

Located post-security near gate eight, the new 1,021sq ft Victoria’s Secret shop offers an assortment of the brand’s popular beauty products, including prestige fragrances such as Bombshell and VS Angel. The shop’s accessories collection is described as ideal for those looking for travel-sized gifts, and includes a wide range of bags, luggage, and sunglasses.

Managed by American Airlines, JFK’s Terminal 8 opened in 2005. The 1.58million sq ft facility is home to 29 gates with the capacity to serve 12.8 million passengers per year.
