Travel Blue targets China expansion after three airport openings

Travel Blue subsidiary Travel Blue China has opened stores at Guangzhou Baiyun International, Hangzhou Xiaoshan International and Hohhot Baita International airports, as the brand expands its presence in China. The company said the stores are run by its local partners.

Guangzhou Baiyun and Hangzhou Xiaoshan are among the largest airports in China, with a combined total of over 100 million passengers annually.

Travel Blue China Regional Managing Director Andy King said: “The opening of our branded stores in these highly desirable locations is part of our sales strategy to maximise the rapidly expanding Chinese tourism culture, with the forecast [for] over 400 million international flights [to and from China] by 2030.”

King also underlined the significance of Hohhot Baita International in Inner Mongolia. He said the airport is one of few to meet the landing requirements of Airbus A380 aircraft. Over 10 million passengers used the airport in 2017 and passenger numbers are expected to increase, aided by a new direct route to Moscow.

In a statement, Travel Blue hailed its expansion in China and said it planned “rapid” growth in the country.
