Transport Minister names Cork Airport board – 07/08/04

IRELAND. Transport Minister Seamus Brennan yesterday announced the full membership of the board-designate for the new Cork Airport Authority.

The board will comprise 12 members. The announcement completes the establishment of three airport boards-designate for Dublin, Cork and Shannon.

The chairman will be Joe Gantly, the former managing director of European operations for Apple. He is also currently a board member of Aer Rianta.

The other members of the board include: Pat Dalton of Bord Gais, Loretta Glucksman of American Fund Ireland, Humphrey Murphy of Global Stainless, Don Cullinane of Beacon Travel group, Alf Smiddy of Beamish & Crawford, Veronica Perdisatt of Kilkenny Group and Eoin O’Cathain of O’Cathain Iasc Teo.

Brennan told local reporters that the State Airports Act requires a number of steps to be followed as the reorganisation of Aer Rianta is implemented.

This will include renaming Aer Rianta as the Dublin Airport Authority and incorporating Shannon and Cork airport authorities as public companies under the Companies Act.

Each of the new board has to formulate detailed business and financial plans.

All assets of Aer Rianta, including international airport management and retail arm Aer Rianta International will move under the Dublin Airport Authority banner.
