The Minister of Transportation and Communication of Wang Kwo-Tsai visited Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport Terminal 2 last week, to mark the travel hub’s 44th anniversary and announce incentives for international tourists.
As part of a series of measures to boost tourism recovery, Taiwan is gifting NT$5,000 (US$164) to individual foreign tourists, while travel agencies could receive NT$10,000 (US$328) to NT$20,000 (US$656) for each tour group that arrives in Taiwan. Wang Kwo-Tsai spoke to reporters on the subject during his visit.
The aim is for Taiwan to attract six million international visitors this year including one million from Mainland China.
During his appearance at the airport, Wang Kwo-Tsai greeted international visitors. He also joined Taoyuan International Airport Corporation (TIAC) Chairman Lin Kuo-Shian in a visit to the Tasa Meng Duty Free arrivals store.
The Minister delivered a message to Tasa Meng employees that the Chinese government’s recently-introduced open border policy will boost tourism, and in turn help revive Taiwan’s duty free sector.
Tasa Meng has partnered with TIAC to offer various retail promotions to mark the airport’s milestone anniversary.
Tasa Meng General Manager Gary Chau said: “We will benefit from this great news [of the tourist incentives], especially as one million high-spending PRC passengers will be visiting Taiwan soon. And there are a lot of Hong Kong and Macau tourists visiting Taiwan since early February.” ✈
