Day one closed with a reinforcement of the consumer-led thinking that had, refreshingly, driven the whole event to that point. Susan Whelan, Deputy Managing Director of dynamic Thai duty free retailer King Power International, gave an impassioned presentation on the need to understand consumers – and non-consumers. She argued against the ‘pigeon-holing’ approach that characterises so much consumer research.

GfK NOP is one of the world’s top ten global market research organisations. Managing Director – Consumer Products & Retail Steve Thomson talked learnedly of the vital need to keep pace with changing consumer values.
