The Moodie Report 10th Anniversary Charity Ball raises over US$400,000

370 guests helped to raise significant funds for the two chosen charities

HONG KONG. The Moodie Report can reveal that its 10th Anniversary Charity Ball last week raised around US$375,000 for the evening’s two causes. The donations will be shared between Hand In Hand For Haiti and The Moodie Report Foundation, a new charity dedicated to funding cancer research.

A further US$34,000 was donated to The Moodie Report Foundation at the event – including US$32,000 from Stuart and Bruce McGuire of Scorpio Distributors – on a night that drew a sell-out attendance and some heart-warming displays of generosity from both companies and individuals. [Earlier, Dubai Duty Free had donated an amazing US$50,000 to The Moodie Report Foundation. The UAE retailer’s Executive Vice Chairman Colm McLoughlin and his wife Breeda flew in all the way from Dubai for the occasion.]

Premier Portfolio also donated £1,000 to The Moodie Report Foundation. Our friendly rival Duty-Free News International kindly gave £1,500 to be split between both charities.

Around 370 guests attended the event, including greater China travel retailers Sky Connection, King Power Group (HK), DFS, Ever Rich and Sunrise Duty Free; and overseas retailers including Dubai Duty Free and World Duty Free Group.

The support we received from guests, donors and sponsors was incredible. Even more significantly, DFS – so important to Hand in Hand for Haiti – poured in tremendous resources to help drive the event’s success. The DFS team gave freely and generously of their time and were wonderfully passionate about the causes.

“For both charities, the funds raised will go to good use. The Moodie Report Foundation is determined to help the battle against cancer and this injection of funds will be put towards excellent and carefully evaluated research causes. For Hand in Hand in Haiti, the monies will allow the Board to continue its work in adding classes to what is already a world-class educational facility, one that is already making a huge difference to the young people of Saint Marc, Haiti.”
