‘The future of skincare’ — Dr.Ci:Labo to reveal new brand identity at Virtual Travel Retail Expo

‘Simple, results, science’ are represented in Dr.Ci:Labo’s new ‘Kumiko Cross’ logo

Johnson & Johnson-owned derma cosmetics brand Dr.Ci:Labo will be unveiling its new brand identity and revealing its new Global Brand Ambassador at the upcoming Moodie Davitt Virtual Travel Retail Expo on 12-16 October 2020.

Dr.Ci:Labo — a Silver Partner of the pioneering virtual event — will be exhibiting at #Virtual Stand BT-S1.

The brand’s new logo builds on its ‘Simple, Results, Science’ ethos which has informed Dr.Ci:Labo since its launch in 1999 by acclaimed Japanese dermatologist Dr.Yoshinori Shirono.

‘Skin, Results and Science’ represents the brand’s mission to create simple skincare that works to unlock the skin’s beauty potential; master every dimension of skin health and beauty potential to deliver results; and create product innovations backed by advanced skin science and dermatological knowledge.

Japanese actress Chiaki Kuriyama — known for her roles in films ‘Battle Royale’ and ‘Kill Bill Vol.1’ — has been named as the brand’s first-ever Global Brand Ambassador

The new logo pays homage to these pillars which are represented by a trio of vertical lines on top of the three horizontal lines. The horizontal lines represent the brand’s three holistic beauty offerings. These are the Shirono Clinic which offers foundational medical solutions; the Ci:z Salon which offers specialty care by beauty professionals; and Dr.Ci:Labo which offers everyday skincare products.

The minimal design of the new branding was inspired by the art of ‘Kumiko,’ a traditional Japanese woodworking technique. The six interlocking lines of the new logo combine to form the Dr.Ci:Labo Kumiko Cross – a modern interpretation of the brand’s original logo.

In addition, Dr.Ci:Labo has also named Japanese actress Chiaki Kuriyama as its first-ever Global Brand Ambassador. Kuriyama starred in films such as ‘Battle Royale’ and ‘Kill Bill Vol.1.’ She is also a regular host of NHK-BSP television programmes ‘Mysterious! Supernatural Files Darkside Mysteries’ and ‘Tanemaku Tabibito.’

Johnson & Johnson Head of Marketing, Media and Digital, Travel Retail Sandrine Tesnière said, “Drawing from Dr.Ci:Labo’s simple, science-based and results-driven philosophy towards beauty, the refreshed brand identity aptly positions Dr.Ci:Labo for the future of skincare; while signalling to its supporters the brand’s commitment to continue delivering innovative skincare products that unlock the skin’s beauty potential.”

Commenting on Dr.Ci:Labo’s participation at the upcoming Moodie Davitt Virtual Travel Retail Expo, Tesnière added: “We are proud that Dr.Ci:Labo’s new look will first be unveiled in the travel retail channel as the brand continues to build brand presence with an international audience. We are excited to see our beautiful brand come to life in the travel retail segment as we work hand in hand with our retail partners.”

As reported, Ci:z Holdings — Dr.Ci:Labo’s parent company — was acquired by Johnson & Johnson in January 2019.
