The best of Italian food and wine: Food Accademia extends its portfolio for Cannes

Italian food and wine specialist Food Accademia targets the gifting market through its extensive range of products, which includes new lines, for the upcoming TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes (Red Village, K15).

The company said it aims to consolidate its distribution network in Europe and is looking to the Americas for expansion.

New to the wine portfolio is the Bollicine Chardonnay & Riesling, which is presented in an eye-catching black spherical bottle – “the only one of its kind”, says Food Accademia. The wine offers flavours of lime and mint, plum and gooseberry with a fruit and cinnamon finish.

An eye-catcher: Bollicine Chardonnay & Riesling wine is presented in a striking black spherical bottle.

Wines from the Cà dei Frati label are available in travel retail only through Food Accademia. Τhe range includes the white Laguna (RRP€15), which Food Accademia describes as “exceptional”, and the “superb” red Amarone which targets the 35+ age group.

The offer also includes two wines from Ricci Curbastro: the Franciacorta Brut Rosé and the Ricci Curbastro Brut.

New spirits in the Food Accademia line-up include Castagner’s 12yo Torba Nera grappa from the Miti Italiani collection, which comes in a travel retail exclusive presentation box that doubles as a stand; and Fuoriclasse Leon Grappa Riserva in 3yo and 15yo expressions.

Food Accademia said its new Russo Limoncello from the Amalfi Coast is ideal for destination merchandising.

Cà dei Frati offers an “exceptional” Laguna white wine.

Food Accademia is also introducing a new series of gift boxes at TFWA, including the Sommariva Gift Box, containing a trio of different sauces such as Pesto Genovese, Black Taggiasche olive oil cream and Anchovy cream; and the T&C Truffles Gift Box of five sauces to accompany appetisers and finger food. The NIK Gift Box contains dried pasta with goji berries and spicy tomato sauce and the Torrefazione Cannaregio Gift Box offers toasted and ground mocha coffee from a Venetian roasting house. The Caviar Giaveri Gift Box Tzar Trilogy contains a selection of caviar from Russian sturgeon roe.

Food Accademia Founder Fabrizio Canal said: “Italy has a global reputation for food, oil and wines, and Food Accademia brings the very best that the country has to offer to global travel retail. Since we started this business in 2016 we have made slow but steady progress within the channel and are now enjoying sales distribution in airports throughout Italy (of course), but also elsewhere in Europe and the Asia Pacific.”

Canal believes that Italian fine foods have “huge potential” in travel retail outside Italy.

“Our team is able to select the right products according to culture and market trends in each country and region. Our specialists can suggest the best product portfolio for each business opportunity including retail formats: food courts, coffee and beer shops, restaurants etc.”

At the Cannes event, Canal hopes to build on the company’s existing distribution in Europe and is seeking expansion in the Americas.

“We see a lot of potential for our offer in the USA and, indeed, are looking for a distributor or agent to assist us in the region,” Canal concluded.
