THAILAND. Restaurant operator Mango Tree Worldwide has reported opening 12 new restaurant and take-away format venues during 2019, including five in key travel locations. The new openings swell the number of restaurants under its operation by about +20% to 71 across 14 countries and territories.
The restaurateur’s brands range from the first tier full-service Mango Tree restaurants to the second tier Mango Tree Café and Mango Tree Bistro, which it describes as “stylish venues that offer lively social dining for the millennial generation”. But it is the third tier brands that are driving the restaurateur’s growth, including Mango Tree Kitchen, which focuses on providing eat-in and take-away dining in busy locations such as airports, railway stations and shopping malls.

A key travel opening this year was at Mango Tree Grab & Go Suvarnabhumi Airport, a café catering for passengers at Bangkok’s main international gateway. Mango Tree said this forms part of the group’s strategy of targeting areas of high footfall, including transport hubs.
Another restaurant debuting in Thailand was the Khao Moh Mai by Coca @ PTT Bangna Km 34, which is operating at a roadside dining complex on the main highway connecting downtown Bangkok with Suvarnabhumi Airport. Also newly-opened in Bangkok is Mango Tree Café CentralWorld.
Two other travel food & beverage outlets opened in Tokyo last month, where Mango Tree Café Kitasenju and Mango Tree Kitchen Kinshicho are now catering to commuters and travellers at two of the Japanese capital’s busiest railway stations.

Japan has been a key target market for Mango Tree this year, with other travel openings in the form of Mango Tree Café Tenjin, which marked the company’s debut in Fukuoka, and Mango Tree Bistro Hakata. Both eateries are connected to major railway stations in the Japanese port city. A quintet of Japanese openings in 2019 was completed by Mango Tree Kitchen Gapao Daimaru Shinsaibashi in one of biggest shopping malls in Osaka.

Elsewhere in the Asia Pacific region, Mango Tree – which said it is on target to achieve a global portfolio of 100 outlets by 2025 – has opened new restaurants in key countries including India (Mango Chili Bangalore), China (Mango Tree Guangzhou) and the Philippines (Mango Tree Café Manila Bay).
Finally, for 2019, Mango Tree has increased its footprint in the Middle East, opening the Mango Tree Bistro Dubai, providing modern Thai cuisine to residents and international guests at Hilton Dubai The Walk.

Mango Tree Worldwide Global Managing Director Trevor MacKenzie said: “2019 has been an important year for Mango Tree Worldwide. Twelve all-new openings and the complete refurbishment and relaunch of our flagship restaurant in Hong Kong have reaffirmed our position as the world’s biggest international exporter of Thai cuisine.
“It is wonderful to see how popular our restaurants have become with local diners. In future, we will continue to bring high-quality, authentic and contemporary Thai cuisine to exciting new destinations all across the world.”
