TFWA Asia Pacific 2006 and Gate One shape up strongly – 07/05/06

SINGAPORE. TFWA Asia Pacific, to be held in the Singapore Suntec Centre on 16-19 May, will feature 194 suppliers of luxury goods, beauty products, consumer technology, gifts, drinks and tobacco products.

TFWA said that it is pleased with the number of key buyers and agents who have signed up for this year’s exhibition, including at least 50 representatives from major airports. On-site registration will open on Sunday 14 May in the Singapore Suntec Centre level 1.

GATE ONE’S POWERFUL PROGRAMME

in co-operation with ACI Pacific and the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA), TFWA has also finalised the programme for the Gate One conference which opens on Monday 15 May in the Singapore Suntec Centre.

Themed “˜Innovation in the airport community’, Gate One examines strategies being developed to develop airport non-aeronautical revenues. Platinum sponsor is Qatar Duty Free and Gold sponsor, for the third year, Nuance-Watson.

Besides the suppliers, retailers and service providers registered to attend Gate One there will be senior executives from over 30 major international airports or airport companies.

After breakfast provided by HMSHost and a welcome from TFWA President Erik Juul-Mortensen, CAPA’s Peter Harbison will set the context of the conference drawing on his wide experience of airport development in Asia. He will be followed by Professor Steve Burdon of the University of Technology Sydney discussing innovation in various industries.

In the airport planning session moderated by Andrew Drysdale, IATA Regional Vice President Asia Pacific, Jeffrey Loke, CAAS Assistant Commercial Director, will outline the revenue generation strategies of the new Budget Terminal at Singapore Changi Airport.

Toshiaki Kanzaki of Narita Airport Authority will describe changes being implemented that will make the Tokyo gateway a better regional hub and Jean-Claude Higelin, Head of Strategy and Business Development for Fraport, will talk about the German company’s view of emerging opportunities.

Kerrie Mather, CEO of Macquarie Airports, will present her assessment of airport planning objectives and future sources of non-aeronautical revenue

After lunch an analysis of consumer behaviour and the concept of luxury will feature Jim Beighley, DFS Group Global VP Marketing & Business Development. He will seek to counter the belief that low cost carriers mean lower spend on luxury items.

Robert Tedesco, Head of Consulting, American Express, will divulge key data from recent studies into how consumer perceptions have changed in terms of purchasing motivations and the pursuit of luxury.

Thierry Halbroth of McCann Erikson, the creative team working with Cathay Pacific, will contribute an airline perspective in a session led by Doug Newhouse of The Travel Retail Business.

Clive Cranwell, BAA Director of International Business Development, will moderate the Gate One session on growth areas for non-aeronautical revenue such as food & beverages and advertising. Following a presentation of research conducted exclusively for Gate One at 28 airports by Dr Peter Mohn of P Robert and Partners, airport concessionaires JCDecaux, Snack Attack, EYE Corp and SSP Asia Pacific will outline how customer satisfaction can be maximised at airports.

Kim Bum-Ho, General Manager Retail Marketing at Incheon International Airport, will discuss luxury brand retail strategy in the final session of the day.

On Tuesday 16 from 1400-1800 conference delegates are invited to conduct their meetings in a dedicated Gate One Meeting Area in the Suntec Centre where refreshments will be available.

Workshop to evaluate innovation in airport luxury retailing

The Gate One Breakfast Workshop on Wednesday 17May will pick up the theme of “˜Innovation in Airport Luxury Retailing’.

Alessandra Piovesana, Managing Director of Nuance-Watson (HK) will join Hans Bakker, Airport Authority Hong Kong Commercial Director and a panel of suppliers – Kraft World Travel Retail, Samsonite Group, L’Oréal Group and Hugo Boss to discuss the success of luxury retailing at airports using Hong Kong International Airport as a case study.
