The event aims to bring “the essence of Mumbai” to GVK Lounge |
INDIA. Travel Food Services (TFS) and Performa have launched the Mumbai Food Festival at the GVK Lounge of Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport Terminal 2. This is said to be the first time that a lounge at an Indian airport is hosting a food festival for its patrons.
Running until 31 May, the festival aims to celebrate the city’s cuisine by bringing “the essence of Mumbai” to the lounge, with offerings of local delicacies, lost-and-rediscovered recipes and spices, and traditional decorations epitomising the local culture.
“TFS is always in search of excellence and committed to transforming the food & beverage experience,” the company said. “Mumbai is a city that never sleeps and this is an attempt to break the monotony by offering guests something extraordinary at the lounge that excites and helps them reinterpret the city through F&B.”
The menu has been designed to reflect the flavours of Mumbai. Freshly prepared Malvani dishes include Prawns Koliwada, Chicken Sukhe, Bharli Vaangi, Bhakri, Masale Bhaat, Amti, all served in “˜dabba’ (steel) tiffins, with sides of koshimbir, mango pickle and a lemon wedge. Guests can also sample Kheema Pav, Patti Samosa, Batata Vada and Paav Bhaaji. Special chaat (light snack) counters serve tangy and spicy favourites such as Dahi Batata Puri, Sev Puri and Bhel on specially printed newspaper to lend an authentic feel the dining experience.
The cocktail menu is also developed based on local drinks, featuring concoctions such as Aam Panna Martini, Kokum Fizz and Peru Chilli Margarita. Mumbai’s iconic “˜Cutting Chai’ is being served all day from a specially decorated bicycle.
The festival is complemented by a host of activities. From 4pm to midnight, guests can consult a palmist to get a sneak peek at what the future holds in true “˜Bambai Isstyle’. A photo booth also offers them the opportunity to take pictures with the turbans and caps traditionally worn by the various local communities residing in Mumbai.
