SAUDI ARABIA. TAV Construction has won the design and construction tender for the King Khaled Airport Terminal 5 in Riyadh, a project set to built with an investment of US$400 million.

The Turkish construction giant said the project is expected to be completed within 18 months. It is the third tender TAV Construction has won in Saudi Arabia after the Jeddah Airport Aircraft Maintenance Hangars and Medinah Airport projects.

In addition to a 100,000sq m passenger terminal and various auxiliary facilities, the tender covers a 90,000sq m and 3,000 vehicle capacity multi-story car park, fire brigade building, operation center, power station, apron, air side infrastructure and the elevated roads and infrastructure work that will join Terminal-5 to the existing terminals.

TAV Group CEO Sani Sener said: “This is a very important project. Airport privatisations are continuing in Saudi Arabia. This airport is also one of those which will be privatized soon. In the meantime, our investment and operation in Medina is also ongoing. Our US$800 million hangar construction project at Jeddah Airport also continues.

“We are now happy to be undertaking an airport construction project in the country’s third largest city and capital. The airport construction and operations business depends heavily on technology. We continue proudly representing our country throughout the world.”

According to TAV, the total value of contracts it has taken on in the Middle East and North Africa now exceeds US$16 billion.
