KAZAKHSTAN. A consortium led by TAV Airports (in which Groupe ADP is 46.12% shareholder) and VPE Capital has entered discussions to acquire Almaty International Airport in Kazakhstan. TAV Airports and ADP said that a deal could be agreed within “coming weeks or months”.
A statement from ADP said: “This operation fits into Groupe ADP and TAV Airports’ development strategy in Central Asia.”
Almaty is the biggest airport in Central Asia, handling around 6 million passengers in 2018, half of which were on international routes. Kazakhstan, the biggest landlocked country in the world across 2.7 million square kilometres, is the driver of economic growth in the region, and accounts for 60% of Central Asia’s GDP.
