THAILAND. King Power International Group (Thailand) last week revealed one of Asia’s most eye-catching, elegant and experience-led off-airport duty free stores, the new King Power Rangnam. The footage features the outdoor celebrations, stunning night-time shots of King Power Rangnam and the arrival and unveiling of new Global Ambassador, Chinese actress Fan Bingbing.
As we reported on location, King Power’s flagship downtown store has undergone a transformation into a shopping, leisure and entertainment destination under the theme ‘Explore Endlessly’. The company’s investment in the new complex was around Bt2.5 billion (US$74 million).
The Grand Opening on 18 January was one of the most spectacular inaugurations ever to take place in travel retail. Alongside King Power’s owners, management and staff, business partners and media (including The Moodie Davitt Report), it attracted many of Thailand’s biggest celebrities. Even amid a stellar line-up, the unveiling of Fan Bingbing (lower video) stood out.
Ms Fan’s arrival was pure theatre, from the moment she exited a limousine at the entrance to the complex, through a brief photo shoot and an audience with (very excited) fans, to her entrance into the main arena. She was accompanied by a camera crew that allowed the 1,000 guests to track her journey on large screens all the way, and by music from the orchestra that began as a lilt and rose to a crescendo as she accessed the stage.
She was then joined for the official opening by King Power International Chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, CEO Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, Thai Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripituk and Crown Property Bureau Director General Dr. Chirayu Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya.
