Stansted Airport pampers travellers with fish spa

UK. Stansted Airport has opened a fish pedicure spa – GarraSpa – said to be a first for any London airport.

GarraSpa worked with Blackjack Promotions to create a relaxing environment for passengers. Each spa is specifically designed for the terminal ensuring that travellers receive the best comfort while receiving their treatment from the therapeutic “˜Garra Rufa’ fish. The fish is widely known, not only for their cleaning skills, but also for the healing benefits found in their saliva.

The area will be staffed and hosted by trained Blackjack personnel who will be responsible for selling the service to passengers, raising awareness of the treatment’s benefits and maintaining and servicing the aquariums and fish.

Stansted Airport was chosen by GarraSpa for its captive audience and suitable target market

Blackjack Sales and Marketing Director Jaron Wikler commented: “We are delighted with the initial response we’ve had from this instalment. Although this type of treatment is fairly well known, not many people have actually seen or experienced it yet, so inevitably our on-site staff are constantly answering questions from travellers on its benefits.”

GarraSpa’s Mike Jaye added: “We felt that Stansted Airport was the best passenger terminal to start with as it’s known as one of the busiest in the UK as well as being a one-terminal venue, which means we have a much greater captive audience.

“In addition, the demographic of Stansted travellers fits our target market perfectly, and our research shows that these travellers are the type of people who would definitely enjoy this type of treatment. We are now working closely with Blackjack to roll this out to other airports in the UK.”

GarraSpa at Stansted will be on-site until the end of 2011.
