Sister act: Veganista/The LaLa restaurant to open at Vienna Airport T2

AUSTRIA. A 50sq m dining venue combining the cuisine of two Austrian food & beverage brands run by two sisters is planned for opening at Vienna International Airport. Vegan ice cream and meals will be the staple offer of the Veganista/LaLa takeaway restaurant.

The new airport F&B concept – run by Cecilia Havmöller and Susanna Paller – will be located in the shopping plaza directly behind a new security checkpoint in Terminal 2, which is currently closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Among the offerings of the restaurant’s menu is high-quality vegan ice cream, alongside vegan and healthy meals with a focus on regional ingredients and sustainability. All food will be free of artificial additives and packed without plastic.

Vienna Airport Joint CEO and COO Julian Jäger said: “With Veganista and The LaLa we have lured top local quality on board. The power sisters of Cecilia Havmöller and Susanna Paller will not only give the plaza in the newly designed Terminal 2 a young, urban and dynamic flair in the future, but their offering perfectly meets the needs of our travellers.”

Havmöller and Paller opened their first ice cream parlour in May 2013. Since then, they have built up a chain of 12 Veganista branches across Austria, and also opened two The LaLa restaurants in Vienna in 2019.

A statement from the Veganista/The LaLa founders said: “A dream is coming true for us. It was always our goal to open up a shop at Vienna Airport. We love airports because we are continuously on the move a lot. We love the feeling of freedom and the atmosphere at airports. Moreover, on the basis of this opening we are sending out an important signal for us as a company.”

It continued: “We are increasingly looking to the future in spite of the crisis. Hard work and a great team have enabled us to master the crisis and come out even stronger. For us, this opening is something special and gives us a lot of energy. We are not only extremely proud of this cooperation but also of the fact that Vienna Airport gives a vegan restaurant a chance.”

Terminal 2 at Vienna International is currently closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the airport said it should reopen by the time the 2022 Summer flight schedule is due to begin.
