SOUTH KOREA. Shinsegae Duty Free will offer over 170 brands, across the fashion, watches, jewellery and accessory categories at Incheon International Airport Terminal 2, which opens on 18 January.

As revealed Shinsegae Duty Free was awarded the T2 fashion & accessories contract in mid-2018 after a series of tenders.

The concession covers 14 stores embracing 4,300sq m of retail space.

Importantly, the offer includes a Chanel boutique, with the great French luxury brand returning after a two-year absence from Incheon International. Valentino and Rimowa boutiques, both brands’ only doors at the airport, will also feature.

The centre of Terminal 2, composed of a range of luxury brands stores, resembles a “high-end boutique street”, Shin said. It includes a “massive” 17.1m-wide, 13.4m-high facade in front of the Chanel and Gucci boutiques.

Fashion flair: Shinsegae Duty Free will bring its renowned merchandising capability to bear at the company’s newest concession

Shinsegae Duty Free is also introducing various zones and art works to create a pleasant and leisurely shopping experience.

One of the stand-outs of the new offer is a 300sq m ‘Character Zone’, dedicated solely to cartoon characters, which are hugely popular in South Korea and several other Asian countries.

The zone, three times the size of the T1 area, will house the most popular characters, such as Line Friends, Kakao Friends, Pororo and more.

A kids-friendly zone will offer entertainment for young passengers.

The men’s fashion and accessories offer includes boutiques from S.T. Dupont, Bally and Tumi. Products available include briefcases, wallets, belts and sunglasses.

Promotional push

To celebrate the T2 opening, Shinsegae Duty Free is holding various events in its Myeong-dong (Seoul), Busan and Incheon International Airport stores.

These include a ‘2018 lucky winners for Year 2018!’ event, which runs until 21 February. All customers who spend over US$50 in-store will receive an instant lucky draw coupon with 2,018 customers winning lucky gifts on site. These include the major prizes of pre-paid gift cards ranging in value from KW10,000 (US$9.40) to KW500,000 (US$470) and Astro postcards as consolation prizes.

T2 will have the capacity to handle 18 million passengers annually. It will operate in an eco-friendly environment over two basement floors and five above ground level. Initially it will serve four airlines, national carrier Korean Air, Delta Air Lines, Air France and KLM.
