Shenzhen Duty Free showcases spectacular Hainan plans at Virtual Expo

CHINA. Shenzhen Duty Free Group – a Gold Partner and exhibitor at the Virtual Travel Retail Expo (which continues until the end of November) – has revealed plans for the second and third phases of its ambitious downtown duty free shopping complex in Haikou Mission Hills Resort, Hainan.

Working alongside retail partner DFS and Mission Hills Group, Shenzhen Duty Free Group said that it is leveraging its rich brand operation experience and channel procurement advantages to develop and build the next phases of its Times DF Haikou Mission Hills Duty Free Town in the New Town area of the Haikou Mission Hills Resort.

Shenzhen Duty Free Group – which was founded in 1980 and is one of China’s oldest and most successful travel retailers – said its mission with the project is to create “a unique duty free window to the world for customers to fully access quality global shopping without leaving China”.

Shenzhen Duty Free and the Times DF Haikou Mission Hills Duty Free Town enterprise are being showcased to brilliant effect at the Virtual Travel Retail Expo which runs until the end of November. The pictures below are from a compelling video being shown on the retailer’s virtual suite.

Phase I was opened on 31 January this year in a business area of about 25,000sq m. The space features offerings from 500 high-end global brands. The main duty free products available are watches and jewellery, makeup products and perfumes, boutique bags, fashion accessories, wines, imported food, gifts and toys, as well as smartphones and 3C electronics products.

There are three main buildings in Phase I, numbered 1, 3 and 5.  Building 1 is a three-storey centre for perfumes, cosmetics and boutique jewellery, featuring 148 brands. The ground floor features 72 cosmetics brands, divided into pop-up shops and specialised activity areas; the second floor presents 80 makeup, jewellery and watch brands; and the third floor offers 26 fashion brands and 13 temporary display brands.

Building 3 is an experience, selling and exhibition area and Building 5 is a major store called the World of Liquors and Wines. The ground floor features eight flagship retail areas for Hennessy, Rémy Martin, Divca, Pernod Ricard, Bacardi, Camus, AIB and Diageo.

The Phase II permanent shops will be opened at the end of 2022 in a business area of about 46,000sq m covering all categories of high-end duty free luxury and sports goods. It will also feature specialty restaurants.

Phase III will be a duty free complex with a business area of 100,000sq m, which SDFG said will be “a benchmark of refined domestic retail”.

Haikou Mission Hills Resort complex owner Mission Hills Group has rich experience in tourism product development, directing the development of tourism projects such as professional golf courses, Asia’s largest hotspring valley and the Feng Xiaogang Film Commune, which integrates dining, accommodation, travelling, shopping and entertainment.

SDFG said its retail projects, together with Mission Hills Group’s development of sports and cultural elements to the Mission Hills Resort, will “improve the trade mix of Mission Hills region, practically and effectively boosting return customer traffic”.
