New Zealand’s Scapegrace Distilling Co is celebrating record results for the 2023 financial year, posting revenue of NZ$12.7 million (US$7.647 million), a year-on-year increase of +30%.
The company said it is forecasting a similar significant revenue rise next year. Scapegrace said it “hit a major milestone”, selling over 100,000 9-litre cases of product in the 2023 financial year. The Scapegrace portfolio includes gin, vodka, single malt whisky and RTDs, which are available in over 42 countries.
Scapegrace Co-Founder Daniel McLaughlin said: “We’re really pleased with this strong, ongoing year-on-year growth.
“In February we’re marking a decade of Scapegrace being in business and we’re really proud of the domestic and international success we’re seeing as we continue to build New Zealand’s reputation as a world-class premium spirits producer.”

As reported, Scapegrace triumphed at the 2023 Global Spirit Whisky Masters earlier this year, with Scapegrace’s Fortitude V single malt claiming the Master Medal, the highest honour at the event.
McLaughlin also noted ongoing work on the company’s NZ$25 million (US$15 million) distillery on the banks of Lake Dunstan in Central Otago. The distillery is set to be the largest in New Zealand with stage one completed and stage two due to be completed in March 2024.
According to McLaughlin, the project will allow for a huge increase in production, with single malt whisky alone projected to generate an annual wholesale value of NZ$33 million (US$19.87 million).
To help fund the expansion, Scapegrace Distilling secured NZ$13.9 million (US$8.4 million) of new capital in 2023. A capital raise seeking NZ$8 million (US$4.8 million) for the completion of phase two of the distillery project is well underway, with NZ$5 million (US$3 million) already secured.
“This investment is allowing us huge growth as we take our award-winning, distinctly New Zealand products to the world,” McLaughlin added. “We know our commitment to quality and innovation will continue to drive our success and we’re looking forward to seeing what we can achieve in the next ten years.”
