Pernod Ricard-owned Royal Salute has launched a limited-edition 21yo Polo Edition which is available exclusively with DFS at Singapore Changi through June. It will be released globally from September with a recommended price point of US$140.
The whisky was introduced to 300 guests at the Royal Salute Sentebale Polo Cup in Singapore on 5 June. The annual event supports the Sentebale charity, which was founded by Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho to support vulnerable children and teenagers living in extreme poverty and affected by HIV in southern Africa.
To further the fundraising effort, an online auction for a bespoke piece of art that has been wrapped around the first bottle of the limited-edition whisky, was also announced at the event. The bottle, which had been reserved for the Director of Blending, Sandy Hyslop’s own collection, features a hand-crafted illustrative wrap depicting the milestones achieved by Sentebale with the support of Royal Salute over their seven-year partnership. The auction remains online with a reserve price of £7,000 (US$8,900) until Wednesday 14 June.
The 21yo Polo Edition was developed by Royal Salute Director of Blending Sandy Hyslop and is endorsed by Royal Salute Polo Ambassador Malcolm Borwick as a celebration of the brand’s longstanding affinity with polo and its lifestyle. The whisky is housed in a hand-crafted porcelain flagon and is presented in a limited-edition box signed by Borwick and features his widely recognised red helmet.
The whisky, described as more delicately-flavoured, offers notes of honeydew melon, berry jam and creamy toffee.
Royal Salute Brand Director Peter Moore said: ‘‘Polo is a noble game of honour, skill, integrity and respect – all values inherent in Royal Salute. We wanted to continue to celebrate the iconic pairing of our ‘King of Whisky’ with the ‘Sport of Kings’, and this new Polo Edition does just that in a more delicate tasting blend ideal for outdoor, daytime enjoyment. We’re thrilled to bring it to whisky aficionados around the world.”
