Redesigned T2 at Vienna Airport opens with refreshed retail and F&B offer

AUSTRIA. Vienna International Airport’s Terminal 2 today reopened with a bold new look and revamped shopping and food & beverage offer. Among the highlights are redesigned stores from Heinemann and a concept from SSP Austria in partnership with Viennese café brand Trzesniewski.

The main Heinemann Duty Free & Travel Value Shop, located after the security checkpoint, has been enlarged during the renovation period and features an enhanced range of Austrian goods. These include Sachertorte cake and ‘Mozart balls’ as well as Styrian pumpkin seed oil and many other regional products. Heinemann is also trading from three other shops in T2.

Heinemann Austria Managing Director Roman Koch said: “We used the time to remodel our main shop in Terminal 2 with floor space of 1,000 square metres. We invested in spite of the coronavirus, which shows a clear commitment to the business location of Vienna.”

Meanwhile, the well-known traditional Viennese café brand Trzesniewski has returned to the airport after an absence of ten years. Operated by SSP Austria in close cooperation with the brand, the eatery offers an extensive range of open-faced sandwiches and desserts in the departure hall of T2. Food can be eaten on site or taken away on to flights

Trzesniewski Managing Director Manfred Österreicher said: “The newly-designed Terminal 2 offers the perfect environment to offer our tradition-rich product range to travellers. After taking a break, we are once again back at the airport with a piece of Viennese history.”

SSP Austria Managing Director Achim Kretzschmar said: “We are pleased to have this opportunity to represent this traditional Viennese brand on the basis of our airport know-how and continue to focus on growth in cooperation with our very esteemed leasing partners.”

The restaurant Zugvogel, which offers panoramic view of the airfield, the Juice Factory and shops run by Swarovski, Capi Electronics and Lamy have now all reopened in T2.

Other upcoming developments in the terminal include the opening of 50sq m Austrian café Veganista/The LaLa. It will serve vegan, kosher and halal dishes.

Also new to airport in the Spring will be a restaurant from celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck, which will be located in the arrivals hall of Terminal 3. The 700sq m restaurant – which will have a focus on modern Mediterranean and Austrian cuisine – includes a large bar and take-away area.

Vienna Airport Joint CEO and COO Julian Jäger said: “Starting today, the newly-designed Terminal 2 and thus the entire terminal infrastructure is once again in operation at Vienna Airport. Passengers will experience new restaurant and shopping offerings and I look forward to several other new and exciting openings in the coming weeks. Local catering establishments are playing a major role in all of this.”
