Red-ribbon day as Dufry celebrates opening of new-look store at Jamaica’s Sangster Airport

Dufry and MBJ Airports executives honour a red-ribbon day for Sangster International Airport in time-honoured fashion

JAMAICA. Dufry this week celebrated the inauguration of its new 1,586sq m main duty free store at Sangster International Airport (SIA) along with MBJ Airports Limited (MBJ) and other VIPs. The store enjoys a prime position in the airport’s newly expanded departure area, opened on 15 December.

Dufry President and CEO Latin America  Enrique Urioste and Caribbean General Manager Juan Antonio Nieto were joined by senior management from MBJ, including CEO Shane Munroe, CFO Sherifia Powell, Legal Counsel Camille Royes, and Commercial Business Development & Marketing Manager Sharon Hislop as well as the airport’s commercial team.

Dufry President and CEO Latin America  Enrique Urioste: “When planning the development of the new store, we have been able to introduce many exciting new brands and features that really reflect the great spirit and vibrancy of Jamaica”

Dufry has operated the duty free and duty paid stores in SIA since 2012. The expanded walk-through duty free store has been relocated nearer to the security channel to maximise the high passenger footfall. As one of the Caribbean’s largest and busiest airports, SIA welcomes almost 5 million international passengers each year (based on pe-pandemic 2019 numbers).

The new store has nearly 500sq m of additional space compared to its predecessor, allowing an extended product range across all the core categories of beauty, liquor, luxury accessories, tobacco and confectionery, together with a diverse assortment of local food, travel accessories, electronics, toys and souvenirs.

A striking central area called ‘Rum Vibes’ conveys a strong Sense of Place, showcasing local liquors included many Jamaican rums. Customers are invited to sample selected products available at the in-store tasting bars.

The recently inaugurated 110sq m Appleton Estate Rum boutique is another standout. Appleton is the most popular Jamaican rum brand and customers can discover its rich heritage using the digital instore touchpoints and promotional tasting area, which combine to create an engaging and immersive experience for travellers. We look forward to continuing to deliver a first-class shopping experience to each and every customer that visits our store.”
