QATAR. Qatar Duty Free has signed an MOU with the B&S Group to open three Capi electronics stores at Hamad International Airport in 2022.

Qatar Duty Free Vice President Operations Thabet Musleh confirmed the landmark deal to The Moodie Davitt Report this afternoon from Cannes, France where he is attending the TFWA World Exhibition.

Today he celebrated the agreement with B&S CEO Tako De Haan and  B&S Retail Managing Director Guus Jonge Poerink.

Qatar Airways is the in-house multiple award-winning travel retailer at Hamad International Airport, recently judged the world’s best airport at the Skytrax Awards.

Capi is a specialist consumer technology retailer wholly specialised in the duty free and travel retail sectors.

It operates stores at multiple airports, on cruise liners and ferries, and in military bases and border shops.

Note: Capi’s parent company B&S is the subject of a major profile this week by The Moodie Davitt Report online and in our TFWA World Exhibition-focused Magazine.

B&S Group is a giant of the travel retail industry but few travelling consumers are aware of it. Even within the travel retail community, the company has a low profile despite a heritage that dates back to 1872, being listed on the Euronext Amsterdam exchange since 2018, and delivering close to €2 billion in turnover last year. Now the company is determined to increase its visibility to both consumer and trade alike, part of a sweeping transformation process being led by CEO Tako De Haan, who assumed the leadership reins in August 2020.

De Haan considers B&S “a hidden treasure” in the consumer goods industry, citing its extensive distribution network across six diverse segments – beauty, wines & spirits, food & confectionery, personal care, health & wellness, and its direct retail operations in airports and ecommerce. Martin Moodie found out more in a fascinating interview conducted earlier this month with De Haan and Willem Tuk, Managing Director of B&S Beauty, a key and growing division of the B&S Group.
