Prague Airport plans tenders for duty free and foreign exchange contracts

CZECH REPUBLIC. Prague Airport is preparing to release tenders for its duty free and foreign exchange contracts this year. The moves come as the airport plots its long-term future, with an extension to Terminal 2 among the big developments in the years ahead under a €1 billion modernisation plan.

The tender for the duty free contract, currently managed by Lagardère Travel Retail, is expected to be released in November, Prague Airport Executive Director Non-Aviation Business Jiri Petrzilka confirmed to The Moodie Davitt Report. The incumbent’s contract ends in December 2019.

The airport company is likely to offer a six-year contract with an extension option, the length of which is to be determined. The airport is currently in the process of hiring a commercial consultant to examine space to be made available under the contract.

Separately, Prague Airport is to release a tender for its foreign exchange contract in coming weeks. At stake will be an exclusive five-year contract for a single partner – currently two companies manage the business, one in each of the airport’s two terminals.

The airport is planning a major capacity expansion in the years ahead, with the T2 extension a key element. Other investments will include major landside renovations, a new runway and a train from the city to the airport.

We’ll bring you more details on Prague Airport’s development soon.
