Picture Gallery: Eurotrade and design partners reveal upgraded My Duty Free stores at Munich Airport T2

GERMANY. Munich Airport retail subsidiary Eurotrade revealed its upgraded My Duty Free stores across 1,000sq m in Terminal 2 in December, with design by local firm Gruschwitz and fit-out by Umdasch.

As with other My Duty Free stores – notably in the T2 satellite, delivered in 2016 – design of the space was inspired by Munich city’s squares and personalities. In addition to the Angel of Peace and the Isartor, there is also a figure of the Bavarian actor Gustl Bayrhammer, created by artist and sculptor Harry Seeholzer.

Gruschwitz Head of Design Joachim Nieters said: “Munich does not have one single face. Munich has many faces … and many stories. Some of these stories we want to give the visitor on their flight home.”

Other highlights of the newly designed retail space include a fragrance bar in the duty free zone. This offers eye-catching glass domes that put the spotlight on the beauty offer. Other features include mirrored back walls that decorate the sunglasses area.

Other recent Umdasch projects include travel retail spaces at Zürich, Oslo, Abu Dhabi and Athens airports.

Munich Airport passenger traffic hit a new annual high of 46.3 million in 2018, a rise of 4% year-on-year.
