CHINA. New Hainan, owned by Hainan Hinews Media Co, recently visited the Sanya International Duty Free Shopping Complex to report on the rigorous epidemic prevention and controls in place since the recent discovery of imported COVID-19 cases in Sanya City. Hainan Hinews Media Company is The Moodie Davitt Report’s strategic media partner in Hainan.
The complex was closed on 3 March after a family from Tianjin were diagnosed with COVID-19 in Sanya.
It was subsequently reopened on 8 March after a full epidemic prevention programme had been implemented, including the disinfecting and sterilisation of the entire shopping mall.
Before entering the mall, customers must queue up at the entrance for a Health Code and Travel History Code check. Only customers with green codes are allowed to enter the mall. Hand sanitizers are offered at various locations in the mall, including at the security checks and service counters.
Ms Yuhan Wang, Deputy Manager of Sales at CDF Mall’s Fashion Department within the shopping complex, told New Hainan that several measures have been taken to enhance the management and control of traffic flow, goods, and the overall venue.
Signs are put up in stores and open areas reminding customers to wear masks and keep a 1-meter distance. Lifts and escalators are sterilised at least four times per day (before opening, after store closure, in the morning and in the afternoon) and further sterilised during peak times.

The complex also offered training to all employees during store closure on COVID-19 prevention & control measures. Since the reopening, daily health code checks are mandatory for all employees.
With the complex now trading as normal, a wide range of attractive discounts on new products are on offer. The CDF Watch Carnival will be held later this month, with planning work well-advanced. Limited-edition wrist watches and duty free exclusive offerings will be highlights of the event.
The report also visits Phase II of the Sanya International Duty Free Shopping Complex, mostly dedicated to entertainment and food & beverage. Once again a rigorous focus on COVID-related health and safety control is evident.
