AUSTRALIA/NEW ZEALAND. A Spain v England final looms after two dramatic semi-finals in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 saw Sweden and Australia ousted and confined to the dreaded third-fourth play-off match.
England’s pulsating 3-1 victory over co-hosts Australia today means we have a clear leader in our Women’s World Cup 2023 Predictor Competition (see league table below), which like the tournament itself is reaching a thrilling climax.
The Moodie Davitt Report Publisher Irene Revilla, a proud Spaniard, will have been shouting “Olé!” not just after her home country’s triumph over Sweden but following England’s victory against Australia, a result (though not exact score) that she predicted.
As a result, Irene has edged ahead of our long-time leader, Aer Rianta International (ARI) Global Head of Business Development Sue Kelly, who opted for an Australian victory, a rare miss by the Irish sharp-shooter.
Irene’s single point means that the only other contestant with a chance of winning is The Moodie Davitt Report International Account Manager Aran Turner, who will need to score with Ella Toone-like precision in the final two matches to pass our two leaders.
Who will this top-class trio plump for in Saturday’s third-fourth play-off, a match that will decide the penultimate league table? And more intriguingly, will UK-based Irene opt for her long-term country of residence or her homeland in the final?
Sue will be studying both matches closely as our competition fittingly looks like coming down to a contest between two travel retail women with only Aran left to gate crash the party.

As reported, Diageo Global Travel, Blueprint, The Moodie Davitt Report, Aer Rianta International (ARI), King Power Group (Hong Kong), Purple, Qatar Duty Free and Victorinox are generously sponsoring the competition.
Prizes of US$1,000, US$600 and US$400 will be paid respectively to the winner, runner-up and third-placed contestants’ women’s charity of their choice.
The balance of US$2k will be donated to the Koma Karanth Foundation, Women in Travel+’s (WiTR+) chosen charity for 2023.
Every cent of sponsorship goes to charity. Additionally, The Moodie Davitt Report is donating US$20 to the Koma Karanth Foundation for each entrant to encourage participation (with 91 entries that is a further US$1,820 to the Koma Karanth Foundation).

AUSTRALIA/NEW ZEALAND. Forget travel retail, move into footbally punditry instead. That must surely be the message to Aer Rianta International (ARI) Global Head of Business Development Sue Kelly and The Moodie Davitt Report Publisher Irene Revilla as they remain locked at the top of the leaderboard in our Women’s World Cup 2023 Predictor Competition (see league table below).
Remarkably, both hotshots predicted the exact score in Spain’s dramatic 2-1 semi-final triumph over Sweden today.
That leaves them four points clear of The Moodie Davitt Report International Account Manager Aran Turner, perhaps the only remaining contender with a realistic chance of challenging our two long-time front-runners.
A maximum nine points is still on offer for the final three matches but as our league table below shows, it would take an unlikely collapse by Sue or Irene for Aran or certainly any of those a few points further back to overtake the leaders. Then again, this is sport and anything can happen.
Who will our leaders opt for in tomorrow’s big semi-final showdown between hometown heroines Australia (affectionately known as The Matildas) and England?
Sue a proud Irishwoman and Irene a passionate Spaniard. Surely neither will support England? Would they? Sue… come on… really?
Irene, however, being based in London might like to have a boot in both camps via a Spain v England final. That may be the case but don’t count against those gutsy Matildas waltzing all the way to the final.
