Newark Liberty Airport Terminal A to host 60 new retail and F&B spaces

USA. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) has announced that 60 regional, national and global brands have been confirmed for the new Terminal A at Newark Liberty International Airport. The one million sq ft, US$2.7 billion terminal is in the final stages of development and is scheduled to open later this year.

Munich Airport NJ, a subsidiary of Munich Airport International and manager of the current Terminal A, will be responsible for concession management services, airport operations and maintenance.

New Jersey brands will feature prominently in the food & beverage line-up. Those who have signed agreements include Jersey Mike’s, Smokehouse BBQ, Office Tavern & Grill and W.B. Law Coffee.

PANYNJ noted that it has also invested US$3 million to build out retail space within the new Terminal A to accommodate the inclusion of local businesses from the cities of Elizabeth and Newark.

Newark Liberty International is one of three major airports serving the New York metropolitan area, along with John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport

Locally-owned and operated stores to be located in the terminal’s main hall include The Black Home, Tonnie’s Minis, Artist Pop Shop and GWER Gelato. They will offer products from souvenirs and artwork to baked goods and gelato.

Well-known brands such as Starbucks, Shake Shack, Bluestone Lane and Hugo Boss will also be represented in the new terminal.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy said: “The Port Authority’s investment in the inclusion of locally owned and operated stores reflects the importance of New Jersey’s small businesses, which act as the backbone of our local economies.”

He added: “Local businesses from Elizabeth and Newark, in addition to several quintessentially Jersey brands, represent the vast diversity of our state’s commercial sector.

“Overall, Terminal A will solidify our position as a hub for domestic and international travel, while providing a tremendous boost to our already burgeoning economy.”

Munich Airport International CEO Ralf Gaffal said: “We are proud of and excited about the new Terminal A’s commercial programme, which is a key element in creating a world-class customer experience. This terminal will offer a grand experience of the highest possible standard.”

Replacing the existing Terminal A, the new terminal will have a capacity for approximately 14 million passengers annually and 33 common-use gates.

Terminal A is the state’s largest design-build project, expected to generate more than US$4.6 billion in regional economic activity, create more than 23,000 jobs and provide more than US$1.9 billion in wages.
