New York JFK Terminal 4 marks Chinese New Year in spectacular style

USA. New York John F. Kennedy International Airport Terminal 4 hosted a series of activities to celebrate Chinese Lunar New Year this month.

The specially-decorated Terminal 4 hosted lion dances among a number of activities.

Among the highlights was T4’s Retail Lounge being decorated with cherry blossoms and red lanterns, which are said to be symbols of flourishing life and prosperous business. The lanterns will remain in place until the end of February.

Brands including Estée Lauder participated in the Lunar New Year promotion.

As part of the T4 celebrations, beauty brand Estée Lauder installed a Lunar New Year-inspired pop-up decked out in red, the colour which represents good luck in China.

Six airlines serving destinations in Asia handed out red envelopes to passengers.

Meanwhile, at the gates, T4 staff surprised passengers boarding flights on Xiamen Airlines, Asiana Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Hainan Airlines, China Airlines and China Southern Airlines bound for destinations throughout Asia. Travellers were given red envelopes and treated to lion dances.

JFK T4 serves 34 international and domestic airlines and served more than 21 million travellers in 2018. It is operated by JFK International Air Terminal (JFKIAT), a private management company led by Schiphol Group.

Travel retailer DFS ran Lunar New Year-related promotions in its Terminal 4 stores.

JFKIAT President and CEO Roel Huinink said: “We wish our passengers and everyone in the New York area a happy and fortuitous Year of the Pig. We hope that the Lunar New Year festivities added a memorable touch to our passengers’ travelling experience.”

The fun did not end in the airport, with flight crews getting in on the act.
