English drinks company The Lakes Distillery is targeting travel retail with its range of premium spirits, which includes The One – claimed to be the world’s only ‘British’ whisky (i.e. one blended from English, Welsh, Scottish and Irish whiskies).
The brand is being handled in duty free and travel retail by Neil Johnson, who held senior positions with Nuance Australia from 1990 to 2014 and later worked for Brisbane Airport Corporation as Retail Asset Manager.
The Lakes Distillery was opened by Her Royal Highness Princess Anne in July 2015. It is sited in England’s Lake District, home to the country’s highest mountain and deepest lake and world famous for its spectacular scenery and clean air.
The Lakes Distillery was founded by Paul Currie, who had previously set up the award-winning Isle of Arran distillery in Scotland with his father.

Johnson told The Moodie Davitt Report: “The One is the only truly British Whisky on the market. We also have some premium white spirits. The distillery is in a wonderful setting and is set up to produce very high quality spirits.”
