Mydutyfree and Lagardère Travel Retail extend digital cooperation in Saudi Arabia

SAUDI ARABIA. Mydutyfree, which offers a click-and-collect service for travelling shoppers, has extended its Saudi airports’ agreement with Lagardère Travel Retail to include King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.

Effective this month, the Mydutyfree marketplace and pre-order service is available at the Riyadh gateway, along with with three other shops in Dammam and Jeddah airports connected earlier.

Lagardère Travel Retail operates six duty free stores across the three Saudi airports, offering a range of fragrances and cosmetics, foods and confectionery, consumer technology, luxury items and gifts.

“The cooperation between Lagardère Travel Retail and Mydutyfree in Saudi Arabia is a great way of creating a unique shopping experience for every customer,” the company said.

Ukrainian company Mydutyfree (profiled here by The Moodie Davitt Report) is now available in 32 shops in six countries (Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus and Georgia). The company, launched in 2015 in Ukraine, has to date connected shops in 16 airports and 16 land border stores.

Mydutyfree said: “For a shop or retailer, connecting to Mydutyfree is an opportunity to develop an online catalogue and pre-order system with minimal effort – both in financial terms and from a development team perspective. For a traveller, it’s a great way to choose duty free products before they arrive at the airport and get a discount.”

Mydutyfree said that it is also developing a shopping software solution for airports that will be integrated into the respective airport’s website and unites all shops on a single platform.

The latest agreement extends a growing relationship between Mydutyfree and Lagardère Travel Retail. Pictured is the latter’s Aelia Duty Free store at Dammam King Fahd International Airport, featuring distinctive local theming, opened in July 2017.

The company claims that its flexible system allows “quick and effortless” connecting of a new shop.

“Apart from the customer service at the cash desk, it doesn’t require any additional work from the retailer,” Mydutyfree said. “Our team does all the work on the integration; price and availability updating; and implementation of the click-and-collect system. The team also creates and maintains online catalogues, so the retailer doesn’t need to have a base of product descriptions and images.”

Mydutyfree said that it can assume responsibility for digital marketing and operations, as well as providing data dashboards for customer behavior and feedback.
