‘Miller’s Tale, the rip-roaring story of a travel retail pioneer written by Martin Moodie, is published as Bob Miller turns 89

INTERNATIONAL. As DFS Group co-founder Robert (Bob) Miller celebrates his 89th birthday today (23 May), his biography, Miller’s Tale – authored by The Moodie Davitt Report Founder & Chairman Martin Moodie – has just been published.

The limited-edition, private placement-only book tells the rip-roaring story of a New England boy from modest origins who co-founded and helped create a global shopping powerhouse.

At 89, Miller still retains his shareholding — now as a partner to LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, the world’s biggest luxury house — in the company he founded.

The work also details Miller’s extraordinary sailing exploits, including how at 72 he broke the century-old record for a transatlantic yacht crossing, pushing his boat, his crew and himself almost beyond their limits.

Miller’s Tale is an inspiring tale of, in Bob Miller’s words, a good life lived with courage. Both a personal biography and a business history, the limited-edition work is based on extensive interviews, exclusive access to personal diaries and records and the author’s deep knowledge of the travel retail industry.

“I’m hugely proud of this work. It was the honour of my career to tell Mr Miller’s extraordinary tale,” said Martin Moodie. “He is a remarkable man, who has helped shape our industry and who has indeed lived a good life with courage.”
