IRELAND. Dublin Airport restaurateur Marqette,  FAB winner of Airport Food Hall of the Year 2018, is replacing one-use plastic drinking straws with a compostable paper alternative.

Marqette was the first concessionaire to introduce compostable packaging to Dublin Airport and has always used compostable coffee cups and recyclable packaging.

Marqette bids a definitive farewell to plastic straws.

Marqette Marketing Communications Manager Caroline Geraghty said the airport food court operator was determined to do its part in reducing plastic pollution and promoting the use of environmentally-friendly alternatives. “We are showing it’s possible to rethink how much – and what type of – waste your business creates,” she said.

Geraghty underlined the company’s commitment to environmental responsibility, with its staff and customers as flag bearers. “The team is highly invested in working both up and down its supply chain with suppliers, service providers and customers to be consciously green and ethical.

“Working with our producers and suppliers, we request minimum secondary packaging and outer wrappings, crated deliveries and non-plastic delivery containers where possible, while still complying with food hygiene and environmental health standards.

Compostable paper straws add a colourful touch to a Marqette cocktail.

“It is important to us that products used in our food and drinks come from ethical, responsible and safe sources. Using local suppliers keeps food-miles low and supports Marqette’s green and sustainable business principles,” Geraghty concluded.

Marqette is a two-time Airport Food Court of the Year winner at The Moodie Davitt Report’s annual FAB Awards.

FABulous recognition of acclaimed food court operations at Dublin Airport.
