MACAU, CHINA. Travel retailers in Macau are looking forward to a sharp increase in visitor numbers over the Lunar New Year holiday period as air and sea trip services are geared up following the scrapping of quarantine requirements on 8 January.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Macau (AACM) has given the green light for Air Macau and other carriers to resume more flights between the Special Administrative Region and other destinations in Mainland China, Taiwan, and overseas ahead of the busy Lunar New Year holiday season.

The Macau Daily Times reports today on a visitor boom over the weekend. Click on the image to read the article.

There are now 29 passenger flights between Macau and other destinations, including 21 cities in Mainland China, one each with Taiwan and Hong Kong, and six other Asian cities.

From this month Air Macau is flying once a week to Bangkok and Seoul, while Air China can now operate flights between Wuhan and Macau three times a week. Shenzhen Airlines has restarted daily flights between Wuxi and Macau.

After AACM approval, AirAsia will begin restoring flights to and from Kuala Lumpur (three times weekly) and Bangkok (twice weekly) in February.

Citing the Civil Aviation Authority of Macau, the SAR’s official government website said more flights will be added to address travel demands for the Chinese New Year holidays

AACM said Juneyao Airlines will start operating one daily flight between Shanghai Pudong International and Macau International airports from 18 January to 5 February to respond to peak holiday period travel demand. Asia Pacific Airlines’ helicopter services connecting Macau and Hong Kong are scheduled eight times daily from 16 to 20 January.

Additional flights have been approved by the AACM, including China Eastern Airlines’ Shanghai Pudong-Macau route, which now flies 21 times per week, from 20 January. Starting 22 January, Air Macau will reinstate 21 flights every Wednesday between Macau and other Mainland destinations including Chongqing, Nantong, Qingdao, Taiyuan, Tianjin, Wenzhou, Yiwu and Zhengzhou.
