Macau records +275% rise in tourist arrivals in April

MACAU, CHINA. Macau’s tourism industry continued its strong recovery in April, with visitor arrivals breaking the 2 million mark, an increase of +275% year-on-year.

That is according to the latest figures from the Statistics and Census Service.

April’s tourist volumes were also +16% higher than the month prior when the Special Administrative Region attracted 1.9 million visitors.

The numbers for April represent 67% of those registered in pre-pandemic 2019, when visitor arrivals reached 3.4 million.

Mainland China continued to be the largest market, with 1.38 million visitors, up by +159% year-on-year. This included 817,730 tourists travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme, an increase of +590% compared with the same period in 2022.

It was followed by Hong Kong with 745,282 inbound visitors, while Taiwan came in third with 33,295, up by +1,039% and +419% year-on-year, respectively.

In the first four months of 2023, visitor arrivals in the Asian gaming hub climbed by + 190.8% year-on-year to 7.2 million. ✈
